More than 300 volunteers will be donating their time at the 2013 Perkins Great Eastern Run in October and people are still required to come forward to help.

The Perkins Great Eastern Run needs volunteers to work as marshals or man water stations on the route during the half marathon and fun run on Sunday 13th October 2013.

Several organisations have already come forward after volunteering in previous years; these include Werrington Parish Church, Sainsbury's and Stamford College. Local running clubs will also be helping out throughout the day.

Organisers will be hosting marshal training events in the lead-up to the race. The induction events will explain what will be expected of volunteers on the day. They are being held on Thursday 26 September and Monday 30 September at 7.30pm at the Peterborough Athletics Track.

On race day volunteers will meet at their pre-arranged assembly point on the route between 8.30 and 9am. Duties will include enforcing road closures, directing athletes, advising members of the public and explaining diversion routes. For giving up their time volunteers will receive a Ron Hill sports jacket and snacks provided by Sainsbury's.

Nicola McCready, Sports Development Manager at Vivacity, is in charge of organising the volunteers. She said: "We would like to hear from any individuals or companies interested in donating their time on Sunday 13 October. The half marathon and fun run are great events for the city and it is a good way for communities to work together across the city."

Annette Joyce, Head of Commercial Operations at Peterborough City Council and Race Director for the Perkins Great Eastern Run, said: "The Perkins Great Eastern Run simply could not take place without the support of more than 300 volunteers every year. Volunteers are crucial to the success of our event and we know from previous feedback that being involved as a volunteer is a rewarding experience."

Individuals or companies wanting to find out more about volunteering at the Perkins Great Eastern Run can download registration forms from the Vivacity and the Perkins Great Eastern Run websites. Alternatively you can email perkinsgreateasternrun@peterborough.gov.uk or telephone: (01733) 207210.
