Charities are being invited to support the Perkins Great Eastern Run by submitting proposals to become official charity for the half marathon race, which takes place on Sunday 12 October.

Organisers Peterborough City Council increased race entries by 20 per cent in 2013 and are targeting the event to reach entry capacity this year.

Almost 7,000 runners entered last year's half marathon and fun run, making it the most successful Perkins Great Eastern Run since the race was re-introduced to Peterborough in 2006.

Annette Joyce, Head of Commercial Operations at Peterborough City Council, said: "The Perkins Great Eastern Run is a premier event with an excellent reputation. It's the fastest growing half marathon in the country and in 2013 the race attracted record participants against a backdrop of several races reporting a decrease in entry numbers or static take-up at best."

"Interest in the event is gathering momentum and this is the ideal time to welcome aboard an official charity for the half marathon main event. This is a fantastic opportunity for a charity to be closely associated with the half marathon and raise funds to enable them to continue their valued work."

Half marathon official charity proposals should be made by email to by Friday 7 February.
