As of tomorrow (Saturday 19 August), there's 50 days to go until this year's Perkins Great Eastern Run. Have you signed up to take part?

Many people will have been inspired by the fantastic achievements of Mo Farah and his fellow athletes at the IAAF World Championships recently and now want to set their own running goals.

The Perkins Great Eastern Run half marathon is one of Britain's fastest half marathons and there is also a wheelchair race and a Anna's Hope 5K fun run.

Entries have been coming in in their numbers over the summer and the 2017 race is set to be the biggest event yet.

Annette Joyce, service director for city services and communications at Peterborough City Council, which organises the race, said: "The Perkins Great Eastern Run is one of the fastest courses in the country and we get runners from near and far on the start line.

"More and more people are taking up running and we want to give them an event where they can have a fantastic day with fellow runners being cheered on by the great crowds we see all around the course."

The race takes place on Sunday 8 October and the closing date for entries is Friday 6 October 2017 at midday, or when the race limits are reached, whichever comes first. Entry prices increase by £2 for each race from Friday 22 September.

Entries to the half marathon and fun run can be made online at www.perkinsgreateasternrun.co.uk

Entries can also be made by post or in person at the Visitor Information Centre, 41 Bridge Street, Peterborough.

David Nicoll, global marketing director for principal sponsors Perkins, added: "The Perkins Great Eastern Run is one of the highlights in the city's sporting calendar and this year's event is on course to attract more runners than ever before.

"For those who are relatively new to running, please take advantage of the advice and support that's available, for free, to help you train and prepare for the run. This support is also available to more experienced runners, to help get you up to speed and achieve your target time."

Runners of all abilities are welcome to attend the free training sessions that take place at the Peterborough Embankment Athletics Track.

Each training session begins at 7pm and the four remaining dates are Wednesday 23 August, Wednesday 6 September, Wednesday 20 September and Wednesday 4 October.

Entrants are also advised that if they have had a change of postal address since entering to let the race team know.  Race packs are due to go out shortly and if the pack goes to the wrong address because they have moved, there will be a cost to re-send the pack.
