In 2006, after a ten year absence, the Perkins Great Eastern Run returned to the racing calendar and was a sensational success. Around 4,000 runners raced through the flat streets of Peterborough, supported by thousands of spectators along the course cheering everyone on. We thought you might like to read some comments made by runners:
"I travelled from Derbyshire to take part in the GER as my first ever half marathon and thoroughly enjoyed it. The event was fantastic, the marshals were great and the support was brilliant. I will be back next year to beat my time. " - Ruth Parker, Derbyshire
"What a great event, reminded me of Dublin Marathon, had the feel of a city marathon. Lots of people clapping and cheering all the way round, flat course, good parking and clockwork organisation. Think it was the best UK event I have raced" - Simon Fawcett, Bedfordshire
"Absolutely loved it. Unlike in other races, you can believe the "fast and flat" description here. Great organisation, brilliant support and marshalling on the course, but most importantly a definite pb race." - Kaysdee (Kelly)
"Really impressed, really enjoyed. You can see a lot of work has gone into organising this, and it really pays off. From the start, through the closing of the roads and on to the finish line I was extremely impressed. Also very surprised how flat and fast this course is. Ideal for PB's. Very glad I took part." - DYU
In 2011 4200 entered the Half Maratahon and 1400 entered the Fun Run. We recorded the third fastest Half Marathon time in the country: 62mins 28secs and the womens course record was broken by Liz Yelling who ran the race in 72mins 14 secs. This is an ideal course to achieve your PB time. 2012 will see a new course record set for both men and women as the course as been redesigned to allow the start and finish areas to be adjacent.
We work with local running clubs to ensure that the runner is put first and we even provide free training workshops throughout the summer for anyone wanting to step up to the challenge. The Perkins Great Eastern Run is a 'not for profit' event that allows you to raise funds for the charity of your choice.
As we are UKA Grand Prix and Championship race in 2012 we expect the demand for places to be even higher. if you are thinking of entering should do so as soon as possible to gurantee your place.
