On 20th January 2011 one mother’s life turned upside down and her worst nightmare came true: her beautiful four year old son was rushed to hospital barely conscious, so thin and so dehydrated that the skin was literally peeling from his lips. Had she known the symptoms of diabetes then maybe things wouldn’t have gone so far. Within minutes of arriving at the hospital his nurse said he was showing all the classic symptoms of Type 1 diabetes, 8 hours after being admitted her beautiful boy was able to start his treatment for diabetes – a lifetime of insulin. By raising awareness in our local community of the (very scary!) consequences of living with diabetes, as well as raising much-needed funds; Diabetes UK are able to work towards one day finding a cure for diabetes.
In the meantime, Diabetes UK need help in continuing to fund research, campaign projects, events for children and families affected by diabetes and support to those living with the condition. Please consider running or walking the Perkins Great Eastern Run 2011 in aid of Diabetes UK.’

Headway Cambridgeshire is a local charity that offers support, advice and guidance to all those who are living with the effects of brain injury. We have been established for over 20 years at our day service in central Cambridge. More recently we have extended our service and have opened satellite branches in Huntingdon, Peterborough and March.
We support people who are living with ‘the hidden disability’ that is brain injury, helping to tackle issues like social isolation brought about by poor short term memory, loss of confidence and loss of skills and abilities. Our team of Community Brain Injury Advisors work with families and carers of individuals with a brain injury, helping them to understand how their lives have changed and giving them coping strategies.
We also work with individuals in the community on a one to one basis helping them to achieve specific desired goals.
Our work in the community does not attract statutory funding and is supported through donations, grants and trusts; this means that your sponsorship money will have a direct effect on peoples’ lives helping us to improve life after brain injury and we thank you for your support.

Cystic Fibrosis affects over 9,000 babies, children and young adults across the UK. A faulty gene makes the body produce thick, sticky mucus that clogs the vital organs leading to chronic lung disease and malnutrition. 90% of youngsters die from lung failure and only half these young people will live beyond their late 30s. Please run with Team CF to ensure our world-leading research to replace the faulty CF gene can continue.
